Orientation Camp

The Orientation Camp came up after filling all the immunization requirements, parental agreement papers and such. It was divided into the orientation itself (about 7 days) and then the English Language Camp for 3 days.

On the day, we attend classes. The "teachers" basically had presentations explaining this and that about living in a new place, blending into the new community, what are your responsibilities as an exchange student, and such, and such. On the night, we prepare for the Talent Show at the end of the orientation (on day 7). We prepared for a decent talent show from scratch on Night 1, until we finish by showing it off to our parents and some other guests on Night 7. This talent show, from what I know, only exists in Indonesia's AFS Orientation. You can't experience this in other countries, which makes it very special to us.

So, here is our Orientation Camp video the committee made:

Anyway, having an Orientation Camp on Ramadhan (the month when Muslims fast from before sunrise until the sun sets) was a really big challenge. As you have read, we don't go straight to sleep after the classes and the fast breaking are over. We had some time to rest and take a shower, but then we have to head back to the hall because we have to practice for the Talent Show. Anyway, this might sound crazy to you: we practice dancing and singing and playing musical instruments and acting (depending on your role) from around 9 P.M. until around 1 A.M., while the next day we have to get up at around 3 or 4 A.M. to do the fasting breakfast. Well, after that, we usually can do our prayer and then go back to sleep until a nice 7 A.M., but still, it was really tiring to do that for six days.

Hard work really did pay off, though. Here, I present you the Orientation Talent Show!

So yeah, it was a harsh orientation. But yeah, it was a really worth it orientation!
